I took the watch to a watchmaker located at 209 Elizabeth Street in Melbourne called Ekselman who was recommended by a fellow member of The Fedora Lounge - www.thefedoralounge.com. It cost about $120 but it was worth every dollar as it works and looks fantastic.

I hope you did end up getting this watch serviced, even though servicing starts around $99 and a new crystal will add $30 or so (see link above to a post about a similar watch I have). It's well worth it, as you'll have your Father's watch running & looking great again, all for the cost of a new low end quartz dress watch. Note: a good watchmaker should examine the watch & provide a quote before doing the work, just in case some parts are no longer available.

Howdy, wondering if you might be able to shed some light, sorry for using the comments to get in touch. I'm trying to work out what style of hat this is - http://www.solid-creative.com/temp/hat.jpg

the brim is quite a lot shorter than a standard fedora etc (less than 38mm) which made me think it was a pork pie, BUT...it has a pinched peak, someone suggested a pinched peak pork pie...but I can't find one anywhere. So I'm guessing I'm either looking for the wrong thing, or looking in the wrong places. Any light you can shed?

I also chanced upon this shop on the way to a fave eating place: Birdman. It looked fascinating.
On the way back to my car, I mentioned it to my brother Eazy and he laughed. He'd already purchased a very suave hat from there. Oh yes, everything's falling into place. As we peered through the window, admiring the merchandise lighting the owner Michael was just leaving.
After a delightful conversation, I decided to return the next day when the shop was open.
I bought three hats. One of which was Australian made!
I'll be back. :)

The "Punter' looks like the hat for me. What a gem!! Great to hear your comments Vernon. My Grandfather was a tradesman, but when not at work he never stepped out without hat and jacket.
